Modernizing Interactive Patient Care: The Evolving State of Smart Room Hardware Capabilities

By Chris Logue, Director, Technical Solutions

The Interactive Patient Care (IPC) hardware market has been evolving rapidly, with new hardware devices being released every 6-12 months. Hardware in hospital patient rooms that once relied upon static TVs with a remote, has now innovated to boast complex remote monitoring rooms that include iPads, Room Boards, Digital Whiteboards, along with voice and video support for patients and clinicians.

While this is good for innovation, this modernization can sometimes slow purchasing and procurement decisions for hospital staff, as they evaluate their options and determine how they will measure success when choosing hardware and software vendors or devices.  Integrations can be complicated, and to maximize functionality, hospitals need an integrated platform to act as the hub for the various other devices and vendors.  Get Well’s 360 platform brings software and hardware vendors together in one interoperable ecosystem.

Early adopters of IPC hardware will find their systems still function, but they are falling behind in supporting the latest innovations, or are seeing an increase in technical issues.  These original IPC hardware platforms guaranteed support for 2-5 years, but, from a security and technology standpoint the rate of innovation was faster than these devices can support.

Still, leading hospitals and health systems want to offer patients, caregivers, and care teams the most innovative and modern technology to make their lives easier.  In the last 12 months alone, Get Well has supported our hospital clients in  deploying new technologies around:

  • Digital Whiteboard to ensure seamless data flow from the EHR into the patient room
  • Bedside iPads that seamlessly extend the patient’s Smart TV experience to the bedside
  • AI-enabled workflows to help navigate patients at the point of discharge and beyond

For nearly 25 years, Get Well has delivered innovative  IPC solutions based on the needs of hospitals, developing new hardware solutions in partnership with major vendors.
